Tulips and Tapestry

Tulips and Tapestry made a great sounding combination I thought!  You could almost imagine a folk song being sung about the two things together couldn't you.

I shall start with the tulips.  The beautiful flowers my Hubby bought me for Valentines.  I have nothing against roses, but oh how I do love a tulip in springtime!

He did go a little overboard with the amount be bought, but that is fine with me as I now have them spread all around the house to see wherever I am.

It really is tulips a go go!

I have finally - only about 7 years after I started it - finished my latest tapestry project!  I have shown it to you a few times before as I have completed different squares.  Today I have the final four squares to show you and the finished piece.

I will do more of a Ta Dah! when I have made it up into a cushion, but I need to get some backing fabric first.  This though is the finished piece of fabric.  It is about 16 inches square to give you an idea of the size.

My next project?  Well I still have a blanket that I am crocheting as and when, but mostly my crocheting is confined to pattern making at the moment, so not much to show you.  I have though started on my next tapestry project.  This is the year of the needle for me so I have a lot of sewing and needle projects to get through this year.

I love it already and cannot wait to get more done and show it to you.  This is the beginning!  It is sideways because of the way that I am having to work it on my tapestry frame.

Hope that you all had a great weekend and that you are off to a good start this - for us - cold and sunny Monday morning.

Amy

  1. I love tulips, you can never have too many in my opinion. The tapestry is lovely, it's a craft I've never tried myself. Looking forward to seeing it again once it's made in to a cushion.

  13. Gorgeous tulips, so cheery on a dull day and full of spring promise. Tapestry is beautiful, so many tiny stitches, you have lots of patience to stitch something so intricate, it will make a beautiful cushion. X

  17. Well done Amy, I know how many hours of stitching this represents. I have a tapestry cushion that I started in 1989 and didn't finish until 2001. Obv. I was busy doing other things besides, but still 12 years! It's still in use and has a green velvet back and piping which I did under my mum's instruction. Lovely tulips, and I agree much nicer than roses at this time of year. My tip for a plump cushion is to buy a feather pad two inches bigger than the overall size of your cushion, so an 18inch pad for a 16inch cushion. Oh, and your new piece looks intriguing.

  23. Beautiful tulips and a stunning tapestry - well done for persevering! Can't wait to see it in cushion form. I could do with a nice tapestry like that to cover our piano stool - the top is looking a little threadbare - perhaps I'll have a look online. Enjoy the rest of the week. xx
