No, I haven't changed the language I speak in, I am still here in English! Sometimes phrases come to mind in French though - although I cannot speak fluent French at all! - and today "il pleut" is on my mind. It means "it is raining".
Oh gosh yes, it is raining. It rained yesterday and it rained most of the night and it is raining today and it is forecast to continue, guess what, yep, raining!
So the word for the day is "pleut"!!!
It is very dark indoors, I need to put the lights on really, but I don't want to. I hate having the lights on during the daytime unless I really have to. Not because I am mean, just because I don't like the fact that it is dark outside meaning I need a light on. I will turn them on though. Needs must.
Today I had hoped to take some photos of my mantel and other things to share, but instead I have photos of the rain. It keeps coming and going, this morning I made it out very quickly to run an errand and stayed dry, although it rained while I drove, and since I got home again it has been coming down thick and fast. No, that sounds more like snow, but you know what I mean. This is big fat wet rain. Yesterday it was more thin dull drizzley rain.
I prefer big fat wet rain to the thin dull drizzely kind. You know where you are with big fat wet rain. It is there being rain. The thin stuff tries to fool you, it isn't so hard, it isn't so wet. I can just pop outside and before you know it you are soaked through and feeling like a drowned rat.
Right now it is raining so hard that you can hear it indoors really loudly and I can even hear it over my typing. The view from my window today is pretty depressing. Grey sky with clouds scudding past, little lighter bits of white here and there and the rain just keeps coming down. Sometimes when the wind blows harder the rain comes sideways, but mostly it is just pouring straight down.
The driveway has done its usual trick of turning into a lake. It is amazing how it happens. There is an edge all the way around, so the water doesn't run off, but as soon as the rain eases it all drains away and disappears like magic!
I think that one of our neighbours has lit their fire, I saw a curl of smoke coming from their chimney. They have an ideal plan for a rainy day, sitting inside beside a warm fire!
It isn't really cold, but you know how you get that damp feeling going through you, that is how I feel today. I think that it is time to get the central heating turned on. So far we have resisted, but today is the day I think!
So I will leave you on this day of pleut to go and do some baking. Dinner is a sort of soupy stew thing made from the leftovers of a sausage casserole with some chorizo added in and I am going to bake some cornbread later to go with it. Only trouble is I need a handful of sage. Guess where the sage is. In the garden. In the rain!!!
I hope that you are warm and dry wherever you are!
