My August Mantel is now all finished!
As you can see here it goes with my new seaside door wreath.
Don't you just love these roses! They have opened out beautifully, and although not really part of the mantel, I had to show them to you!
We start off with an obligatory sideways view. You always have to have a sideways view of my mantels!!
This months theme is fishes! August seems to be a seaside month to me, although I don't know why as I rarely go to the seaside in August because of the heat and busyness. Perhaps that is why I like to bring a bit of the seaside to the house.
I did mention a pattern for the fish that I created, but there is mixed news on that front. I did write the pattern out. During a meeting. That obviously was not about crochet. However, I cannot locate the piece of paper right now. Hopefully I didn't hand it in with the evaluation form at the end of the meeting!! Can you imagine!!! Eeek!!! If, as and when I find it I will share it!
The fishes are cute though aren't they!
The rest of the mantel is made up of things that I shopped the house for. The shells I have bought one at a time on visits to Lyme Regis.
This shell - below - is the one that I bought this year.
What are these little crochet items you might wonder. Well they were the start of some fishing floats to go on the net that the fishes are attached too. But I ran out of steam for making floats, so they are just in the bowl as sort of colourful pearls!
Oh, a sideways shot from the other angle too! Just in case you were not feeling sidewaysish enough...........
The only thing that I purchased - other than this years new shell - was the large white fish which I bought a couple of months ago for the bathroom, but was, I admit really bought with this mantel in mind. So a grand total of £3.00 was spent for this months mantel. The yarn was all from stash, mostly still leftovers from my ripple blanket and Nordic shawl.
The white dishes with the blue insides normally live on a windowsill. The starfish are normally arrayed in a candle hurricane but I pilfered three to add to the mantel as it thought it needed a bit more dimension.
Et voila! One completed mantel!! No idea why I started talking French then. Sorry about that!
I hope that I have inspired you to have a go at refreshing your own mantel for the start of summer! If you don't have a mantel how about dressing up your coffee table or a shelf somewhere. Or your kitchen windowsill?
For September I am breaking from what you might think I would do. No autumn! It will - I hope! - be one for the boys.
You can see the previous months mantels here:-
Happy mantel decorating!
I have joined in Linda's stashbusting party for this project as all of the fish, the net and everything else was all made from stash! Isn't having a stash a great thing. You can find more and find the August stashbusting party here at Linda's lovely blog!
p.s. sorry about the outbreak of exclamations in this post. I am writing this on Wednesday evening and it has been a trying day and I need to exclaim a little!!!
