July Mantel

Finally my July Mantel is ready for the Ta Dah! moment.  You might remember that I was busy making sunflowers, some were for my summer wreath which is hanging on the front door and the rest were for this garland.  You can find more about making the sunflowers including a tutorial and pattern here.

There isn't really anything new for this months mantel apart from the garland, although I am not sure if you have seen some of the things before.  Above you can see on the left a vase of lavender which I picked from the garden, it is drying out slowly so that I can save it.  Then below you can see the two birds that I added.  The white one is a little large, but well, you know, he works!  I figured that the birds went with the sunflowers as birds love to eat sunflower seeds don't they!

The grey one came from a National Trust property some years ago and I have also had the white one for some years.  Usually the white one sits on the coffee table in the summer, but I have changed things up this year.

The A plaque was a gift from New Zealand last year and has been waiting for the summer for a mantel appearance.  The crocheted slug was a gift from Lazy Daisy Jones at the Stratford bloggers meet up earlier in the year.  Of course he would also like to munch on the sunflowers, but the birds are keeping their eyes on him!!

To make the sunflowers into a garland make them as per my pattern and then simply join them with a chain, leaving enough chains between the for them to hang freely.

That is!  July's mantel.  I was hoping that it would bring brightness and sunshine.  Not so much yet, but I remain hopeful!

I hope that I have inspired you to have a go at refreshing your own mantel for the start of summer!  If you don't have a mantel how about dressing up your coffee table or a shelf somewhere.  Or your kitchen windowsill?

You can see the previous months mantels here:-

Happy mantel decorating!

Amy

  9. I love the sunflower garland, I think it's my favourite of all the ones you've shown this year so far. I think sunflowers are such happy, cheerful flowers. It's my friends birthday today and I've bought her a big bouquet of them.

  10. One of my abiding memories if of waking up about 5a.m. on a coach somehwre in France (on our way to Italy) and seeing nothing but yellow all around - fields and fields of sunflowers. Your sunflowers have brought cheer but I love the thought of the birdies watching the slug and keeping him off the sunflowers:)

  15. ohh I LOVE your sunflowers so very much. My daughter loves sunflowers and has an old china pattern with sunflowers on the plates etc. I see your super size tea cup. Mine is similar but it stays outside with birdseed in it . Just a handful a day. Then the chipmunk sits in the cup and eats ..its adorable.

  26. It's beautiful, Amy :-) I love sunflowers. I have crocheted flower gardens hanging from the windows in my living room. And my kitchen window sill is full of treasures, including a vase full of pretty rocks and sunflower pens. It's so important to surround yourself with things that make you happy.

  41. The summer mantel looks perfect Amy! I love the sunflower garland :) It seems only one sunflower grew up from seed in my garden, and I had to chase a baby squirrel off of it recently as he was trying to eat the flower head before the seeds have even formed ... it's not even yellow yet! I do like those birds too, and the tile. Very nice pieces. Thank you for the reminder to pick the lavender before it all goes to seed. Enjoy your week!
