May Mantel

With all that has been going on around in here May my mantel post is rather late this month!  In fact, I was rather late decorating it.  I had taken down the daffodils that I had up in April and removed the other Easter items and then didn't replace them with anything.

Finally though that has changed and I can give you a Ta Dah! moment for my May Mantel!!

I know that you will be asking about the cherries!  They are made in a similar, but different way to the brooches that I made recently.  As soon as I get a chance I will of course write up the pattern and share it with you.

You can just see the little blossoms on the twigs to the right of the fireplace.  These are something that I crocheted about 2 months ago and still haven't shared with you.  Again, a pattern will be forthcoming!

The twigs have lights on them and they look lovely combined with these blossoms.

I also crocheted some bands to go on these two little bottles.  They are just rows of DC (UK terms) crochet then I sewed the two ends together to make a band.

Then I added my favourite vases at the other end of the mantel and these two doggies that I made a couple of years ago from a magazine kit.  They went well with the red of the cherries!

Here you can see the cherries again!

Finally, another look at the mantel.

Next months will be much earlier in the month because I have less to change and my garland is already made.

Just to remind you, for the most part, my monthly mantels are decorated using things that I already have or things that I have made myself.  I rarely buy new things and certainly not just to decorate my mantel with.  Although that isn't to say that I would never buy anything new of course!!  If you are a regular reader you will recognise many of the items from this months mantel.

You can see the previous months mantels below

  1. Lovely that you've decorated it now, I know things have been hectic for you lately. It's looking really pretty and fresh, the cherries are brilliant, clever you. And I love the crochet round the jars, really nice vintagey shades. I hope you have a good bank holiday Amy. CJ xx

  5. I always love how you decorate your mantels, Amy. I would love to do something similar but I fear there would be small destructive hands at play! For now, at least, I will take pleasure from yours instead. X

  18. The cherries are great and the yellow roses are spectacular. We don't have a mantel for either of our fireplaces and I wish we did. Really enjoy seeing pictures of your decorating.

  19. How cute, those cherries !! I really like your May mantel !
The two dachshunds are also really cute (do I see correctly on that one doggy's ear that they were Mollie Makes-gifts ? So unfair, the MM-magazine-gifts in England are always prettier than the ones that we get with MM here in Belgium...)

  34. Your mantle looks lovely and the cherry garland looks really good. I have started some cherry brooches but seem to have put all crafting aside for getting the garden ready. I must get the hook and yarn out again. I just took down my forsythia and fuzzy willows that I put up in April. I hate to part with my little boots full of daffodils but know they must go in the next day or so.

  35. Hi Amy...
    SO talented!
I still have my pussywillows on my foyer table....from EASTER!!...but, they are rooting and sending tiny leaves out!
I will hopefully be cutting some Peonies very soon for my table...
    Enjoy your week...
    Cheers!
    Linda :o)

  39. Just want you to know I am wicked jealous of those adorable cherries and leaves on your mantle. I knew about them before I saw them on your mantle I must admit because my dear friend Meredith was showing off hers over on her blog! LOL!!! Maybe sometime you could put up the pattern? I'm not usually big on crocheted accouterments but those dang cherries really got to me and would look perfect up against my mahogany stained fireplace mantle! :D

Hugs for now my sweet blogging sister,
    Beth P
