A little more crochet...

Just a quickie with a little more (yes, more!) crochet.  Neither of these things are my idea, but I have given them both a little twist.

First up is the item that I showed you the start of on Friday.

Ta Dah!  A hat.  Well done to those of you who guessed it as I don't think that it was that obvious.  I tried to disguise it by showing it to you upside down.  Now, please excuse the model!  It is my fishbowl vase that I put corks in!  I didn't have anything else suitable to show it to you on as it is too big for my Teddy Bear!

It is based on this hat, but if you go and look you will see that mine is rather different.  The brim didn't really roll up as I hoped it would and there is of course no additional decoration because the stripes are more than enough decoration I think.  I have worn it out, but only once so far although I will take it out with me today.

At first I didn't think that it would be that warm and wished that I had made it using DC instead of TR stitches, but once you get walking it is plenty warm enough.  I am a bit worried that it is rather summery, but hey ho, it is what it is.  If I get inspired I might make another, but then I would want matching scarf and so on.  Perhaps I will stick with what I have.  At least I have a hat now to keep me warm.  It matches these that I made last year so I am calling it my Candy Stripe Hat.

The other thing is this brooch.  I am meeting up with another blogger next week who I have never met.  In fact, I have never met any other blogger before.  She suggested that we wear crochet brooches.  I said we should post them on our blogs beforehand in case there was a crochet brooch convention going on and then we would know what we were looking for.  I was only joking about the convention of course!  I don't know if she was joking about the brooches, but it was a good opportunity to make one in any case.

My brooch was inspired by this one, which was in turn inspired by this one.  Mine is rather flatter though I think and has more leaves which come from here.  So, you know who you are, look out for me wearing this!  Or my hat!

Having finished these two items means that I am rather bereft of crochet right now.  I have to get on with the quilt and then get going on my tapestry - especially now that I have that new frame!  I see a little chink in this though because I have found out about a nearby (ish) Knit and Natter group, so I thought I might start my next blanket and then I can keep it just to take to that.  I am not sure if I am brave enough to go to the group though as I don't know what they will make of my work.  Very nerve wracking I find!

I am being really good about crochet and yarn right now though because we drove past a new to me yarn shop on Sunday and stopped and went in for a look - that is how I found out about the group - but I didn't buy a single thing!  Not one inch of yarn, no hooks, or sundries.  Not even the most gorgeous hedgehog buttons.  Nothing.

Doesn't mean that I won't go back and buy something in the future though...

Just a little crochet news!!

Amy

  15. You have to be really careful of all the crochet broach conventions going on, they are ll over the place. I love the hat, I think it is the perfect thing to wear to brighten up a cold, dreary winter day. You are going to have so much fun meeting your new friend. Take pictures!

  33. Love your hat and can we see the brooch? If I go into a quilt shop and come out with nothing, my hubby always asks if I'm OK. Wonder what you'll start next to take to that group, because you will go and meet lots of great people. It's the frienship, not what you can do that matters. Take care.
