Pumpkins and Mums

Pumpkin.  Did someone say pumpkin.  Surely not.  It isn't Halloween.

Well, in America it doesn't have to be Halloween to be pumpkin decorating time.  They were starting to spring up all over the place in New England when we visited.  I didn't get many chances to photograph them, but I saw quite a lot already decorating doorsteps and some pumpkin patches too.

They were also for sale outside of the grocery stores and some other shops as well.  Although I couldn't bring back any real pumpkins - and they will go on sale here before too too long - I did bring back some other ones which I will show you when I share my autumn decorating - they are plastic!!

I did get to photograph quite a few at this lovely garden centre though, as well as the beautiful chrysanthemums - which are just called mum's in the US.  They are stunning and I always feel that chrysanthemums just say autumn to me.

In the coming weeks I will be decorating with pumpkins and chrysanthemums so you will be seeing some more!

Isn't this a wonderful place!

  4. Hi Amy! You have spoilt us with all these wonderful photos! I just love the colours! And I think of pumpkins as something cheerful. I noticed (here in Belgium) that there was a house which had a whole lot of pumpkins positioned outside their garden, it looked fabulous! (Maybe they were Americans?)
Which reminds me, I must have a little crochet pumpkin pattern somewhere.... ;)
Thanks so much for sharing! :)

  9. They just go together, right? Pumpkins are on display everywhere along with the mums in a variety of colors. We have some that have come up from last year, but no pumpkin yet!

  14. I was going to comment "pumpkins are also already sold here", but then, when I looked at your photos.... OMG in America everything just has to be "more and bigger" than everywhere else ;-)))
But I must admit, I like it, their tendency for excesses (when it comes to pumpkins, that is)...
Like Ingrid K. says, here in Belgium, you often see houses with pumpkins at their doorstep now - but Ingrid, they're not americans ;-)))). Many over here grow their own decorative pumpkins and sell them...

    1. Haha, Ingrid, thanks for putting me right on that one!
Why shouldn't Belgians have pumpkins too?!!

  17. I dont think I have ever seen so many different pumpkins and squash, they look amazingly colourful. Those pot 'mums ' look so pretty, the colours are perfect for Autumn. If you pop over to Frugal in Suffolks blog, her hubby has grown some enormous Pumpkins! xx

  28. I love the pictures with the pumpkins. In Sweden we also use pumpkins, not the big orange ones as much (apart from for Halloween) but the smaller fun shaped different coloured ones. I have not seen those for sale here. Perhaps something to grow next year...And chrysanthemum have a special place in my heart. Have you tried Chrysanthemun tea? If nothing else it is beautiful! Have a lovely week-end. Anna x

  30. There is nothing more beautiful than Fall in New England. Here it is still warm and not near as colorful. I am going out to buy some Mum's today to plant in front of my house.
    Hugs to you,
