Silent Saturday - Poppy progress

Silent(ish) Saturday!  This is the progress of opening of my oriental poppy following the journey over about 10 days from the bud to the bedraggled blooms after the rain!

  1. Poppies always look so fragile and delicate. Glad they got some sunshine before the rain came, it's pouring down here today.

  4. Amy, your poppies are beautiful! No wonder you couldn't stop snapping shots. Isn't God's creation continually amazing.

I used to have light lavender poppies and they bloomed out. I need to scatter seeds at the right time and I always forget.

It is interesting how long it takes for the bud to open. I had not noticed mine before. I am noticing my agapanthus taking a long time from bud to open flower. I should count the days too. You have taught me something to be curious about. Weather affects things though. Every year my BF and I discuss the differences in our flowers and decide the weather does keep us thinking and observing.

  8. I love poppies this one is lovely, I have a yellow one that comes up year after year in mt rose bed but this year I think I pulled it up by mistake when I was weeding the rose's. I'm hoping there's some of it left I'll be so sad if i've lost it because poppies won't usually grow in my garden. :)

  16. Gorgeous poppies, Amy, and stunning photos. I love them with their delicate taffeta petals, but have never managed to grow them in our hot climate. Maybe I should try again this winter. xx

    1. I can imagine that they are not plants that are very heat resistant! Although our oriental poppies seem to do OK in the bed that they are in - not that it gets as hot as you have it of course - but perhaps somewhere a bit cooler and more shaded might work? I hope that you can work something out someday! xx

  25. Lovely Amy what magnificent photographs, I adore poppies and have never been able to grow them for some reason. Each time I see them growing somewhere they fill my heart with gladness - sorry I have not popped over to see you so much lately, hopefully work will be a little quieter for a while and I can come and visit you every post. Have a wonderful weekend Amy, big hugs, Dorothyxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  26. I love these poppies. I planted one earlier this year but doubt it will flower now. I will probably have to wait til next year for it to bulk up and flower.
