Five on Friday

Five on Friday time!  Five little things from my week.

1.  A little flower brooch from Mollie Makes, not my greatest success, but I have had some nice comments about it when I have worn it.  They included a long and complicated conversation with a man in a National Trust shop about the difference between homemade and handmade.  My answer to him was that the brooch is handmade, a jar of jam is homemade.

2.  Finding my sun hat after an extensive search of drawers, cupboards and shelves and finding it in with my winter shawls of all places!  Of course since I found it, we have had lots of rain.  Perhaps I should hide it again.

3.  Thinking that my little Kalanchoe really needs to be deadheaded and given a little more love than it has been getting.  My friend Linda will tell me off if she sees this!  I better hup to and deadhead him!  I am very glad to still have this little Kalanchoe around though as I am pretty terrible with houseplants as a general rule, but it seems that I can keep these fellows going.  They are very cheaply available in supermarkets too.  I recommend that you go and find yourself one this weekend.

4.  Finding my crocheted seaweed to add to my rockpool bowl and loving the fact that my hubby knew what it was.  The bird is in lieu of a seagull, but he isn't very seagull like is he!  He is very well behaved though and doesn't steal your ice cream or chips.  Not that I have ice cream and chips in my living room!

5.  Having bowls of fruit and veggies in the fridge because it is salad with everything time again.  I do love having bowls of things in the fridge.  It makes me feel so organised and efficient as well as healthy.

I hope that you have had a good week too whatever you have been doing and that your weekend will be good too and that those of you enjoying a Bank Holiday will have lots of fun.

Welcome to new followers, I hope that you will leave a comment and introduce yourself sometime.  Thank you everyone for all of your lovely comments.

Amy

  1. That sounds like an interesting discussion you had with the man in the National Trust shop. Did he understand the difference after you had explained it? Your example was a good one.

Your fridge puts mine to shame. I really must do some organizing! Have a great weekend!

  2. I love this time of year with beautiful fruit, veg and loads of salad. If only cake wasn't part of the equation then I would be a size 8 again. Have a great weekend.

  4. I've had the conversation before myself, also with an old man. It must be a universal question for them. :)

  8. You are very good to make your free gifts, all of mine are in a wicker chest still in packets. A very good answer about the difference between handmade & homemade. Your fridge looks very tidy far more so than mine, hope you have a great weekend.

  9. Love your five things, the brooch is very pretty I love it and your seaweed is very realistic. I like the fresh salady things and lovely fruit at this time of the year too, I can't wait for all my berries to ripen in my garden, it could be a while though it's pouring with rain and freezing up here again. Have a great Bank holiday weekend yourself Amy. xxx

  10. I could do with your cardi on chilly days!
I spotted something in your fridge that Canadians keep at room temperature...tomato and avocado.
    Mmmmmm...avocado.....

    1. Good eye Jane!!
I was going to mention that!
The tomatoes lose their flavour in the fridge...I only put avacadoes in the fridge once they have ripened...
      It prolongs their shelf life!
As for the Kalanchoe my dear Amy...
It looks pretty good...take off all the crusty ones...and I do believe it needs a smaller pot...
The leaves are bent against the sides of that pot!
Well........I'll bet you are glad old grumpy puss stopped by today!!!
We are home....not at the cottage...miserable day...going tomorrow!
      Love your 5 things....well....almost! hahaha!♥️
      Enjoy your weekend...
      Cheers!
      Linda :o)

  13. I suppose hand made could be made by hand out of the home at a place of work, whereas home made is made in the home. I love your brooch, Amy - very pretty. Have a lovely weekend:)

  16. Your brooch is so pretty, I love it! It's salads in this house too and I always put tomatoes in the fridge! I have had a busy week, but so glad it is a bank holiday weekend! :)

  17. The brooch is great and I love your reasoning behind the differences between home and hand made. Somehow I thought home made was rustic and handmade referred to quality artisan makes. I've no idea why as I cant recall ever having put that much thought into it! Your descriptions are far more sensible and logical.

I've bought a crownless sun hat/brim for this year as I plan to get out more in the garden but need to avoid the sun for medical reasons as well as trying to stop my face looking like a crocodile handbag! Cringing at the Kalanchoe as two had very unfortunate demises when I moved here. The first one my friend killed before it got to me then the next one died on my watch.

I forgot to comment on your last post that your flowers and garden are wonderful and those roses are exquisite.

  18. Hi Amy! Oh, that is a sweet little broach and I'm glad you set that man's thinking straight! :) I've enjoyed your happy fives! Thanks always for popping in to see me and I'll bet you're right about the conversation sayings! :)
    Be a sweetie,
    Shelia ;)

  19. Five Friday delights, Amy. Love that crotchet seaweed, and your arrangement with the 'gull' is very attractive. Your definition of handmade/homemade is a good one - I'm sure I'll borrow that at some time, and the brooch very pretty on your jacket. In our hot climate, fruit and veg live in the fridge all year round; yours look very enticing!

  20. I love that white bird! I have a thing for birds as did my grandmother and your little guy is awesome! And your brooch is beautiful Amy! Seriously!!! What a pretty pop of color it adds to your sweater! And I am with you on having healthy food on hand....it makes me feel good to not only be organized but to have good healthy snacks for the beans right there at their finger tips! Wishing you a beautiful weekend dear friend...may it be filled with sunshine! Nicole xoxo

  21. Things are looking nice and summery at your place! Your brooch is sweet, well done. I love those kind of hats that can be folded and scrunched, I often lose mine, too. Here in Sydney we are still enjoying weather in the mid-20s, lovely with the cool mornings.
