Getting organised

So, having "quit" my job you would think that I would be all organised and tickety boo ready to go right.  Yeah, right.  As organised as a load of autumn leaves blowing down the road!!

A friend e-mailed me and asked if I was enjoying sitting watching TV and sucking grapes (presumably not sour ones!).  I replied that I was still waiting for the grape peeler to arrive - any takers for this this position?

We went away - did you notice, ha ha!! - so I got organised for that.  I really actually was organised and sorted out for going away - for once.  Then we came back and it has all gone downhill since then.

Last week was a blur of sorting photos and posting them, laundry, back to Basildon Park, having hubby home for two days - disaster, I cannot do anything when he is around - and other family dramas to deal with.  So today I thought I really must get down to it and do some work and get sorted out!

The solution - fire off a whole bunch of e-mails to all the people that I should have replied to asking them all questions!  It is one way to postpone having to do things.  I have a feeling that I am on a lot of peoples naughty lists now though for throwing it all back to them.  It gives me some breathing space though and at least they know that I have finally read their messages.

Now that I have all this "free time" I am supposed to be able to get lots done.  Yeah, right.  Does anyone else find that the stuff that needs doing just fills the time, no matter how much time you have available.  So, I am going to make a list, some nice things, some work, some general "stuff".  We can see how far I actually get with this!  I will post the list in my sidebar, so you can see if when I cross them off.  I am giving myself a time limit of the end of the month to get these things done.

No idea if publishing this will work, but if nothing else I might be embarrassed into doing it all...  Wish me luck and chase me up if I am slacking off please.

How do you deal with getting organised and getting stuff done - any tips for the rest of us?

Amy

  1. I gave up work over three years ago and even though I only worked part time, I don't know how I ever managed to find the time to work. Where does the time go? The more you have, the more you use and the more you need. I'm not organised at all. Lovely photos to illustrate this post,

    1. Glad to know that I am not the only one Jo! I have a theory that since the year 2000 time has sped up, but no one else every agrees with me, so perhaps I am just disorganised. I posted my "to do list" in the sidebar, and then added another half a dozen things to it, so I added a task to "stop adding things". So far I have done.... none of them! Thanks for stopping by. xx

    2. I've just had a look at your list, I forgot to look earlier when I commented. There's some nice things on there as well as chores, so I suggest that you do something you're not looking forward to so that you can cross it off, and then do something nice that you are looking forward to, that way, the not so nice jobs will get crossed off as well as the pleasant ones. I admire you making a list, I haven't even got that far.

    3. Well, I have spent the morning dealing with paperwork(yuckky) and although not finished, I am off to do something nicer now! Thank you for the support!

  2. There is nothing organised about me at all. I just seem to go with the flow. If I have important things to do I tend to leave post it notes about and because my memory can be soooo bad, I even have to set my alarm on my phone to remind me of something. Like you I write it all down and cross off as I go along.

    1. I think that lists are the way to go, but I live with "the anti list" (he ripped one up and threw it on the floor once) so I try and keep them to myself, but now I can share them here and he can't do that! Good luck with keeping all of your to do's and lists in order, going with the flow is probably best of all though! xx

  3. That is quite some list... and I thought mine was bad! I would agree with Jo, since I gave up work I've become busier than ever and don't know how I ever managed to fit it all in.

At least I am not trying to reupholster (not sure if that is spelt right!) a chair that keeps attacking me like you are!

  4. I would always laugh when I was a stay at home mom and people thought I just sat around watching tv and eating BonBons... ya right! I just looked at your list on the right, girl you are going to be one busy beaver!! I was just moaning about not being organized enough, and not having enough time for myself, I do like that list, so I'm going to have to do one for myself... There is always something to do!
I would love to have a cuppa with you! Wish I lived closer, Tammy

    1. I have the same trouble really, biggest problem is I remember all the horrid stuff and forget the nice stuff, so I tried to make my list a mixture of the two! See you again. xx

    1. I don't think you are crazy Mary! I hate stuff being out of place too, thankfully it's not so much the "stuff" that I have trouble with it is more the "to do" that I can't keep track of. Good luck keeping your family in order! xx

  7. I'm actually pretty organized but I think it's a response to having grown up in a pretty chaotic environment. I'm not sure that I consciously did this but it's working okay for me. I make a lot of lists and I try to check things off. I like schedules, timetables and deadlines. I know I'm weird. :)

    1. No Jennifer, you are not weird at all!!

I imagine that you have to be organised being a homeschooler to make sure that everything gets done on time, and at the right time. I love to be organised, I am just rubbish at actually getting started. Anyhow, trying to do better now, and then I can be as organised as you!

  8. Thanks for popping by :)
I'm a great list maker too - I get a great deal of satisfaction from crossing things off - but i do cheat and transfer things to a new list, if it gets a bit onerous! It also gives me an excuse to buy different colour pens - essential for list making!

    1. Hey, anything that gives you a reason to buy more stationery has to be a good thing! I have just crossed one thing off "the list" so only 10 million left to go...

  9. Wow... That's some list! 45 things in 3 weeks? You better get busy! ;) I have a not-so-fun to do list, too for the fall....I didn't post that one. ha. I'll keep checking in to see how you're doing! It's fun to have it on your blog ...it inspires you to keep at it and be accountable to your blog friends! Best of luck!

Glad the pillows came out ok but disappointed that there won't be any crazy escaped feather pics! I always do a shopping list so perhaps I am more organized than I think... xx

  12. Hi, Amy! If my closets and cupboards are in order, I feel like everything in my world goes better. Give me something to organize, and I'm in heaven. Perhaps I need a trip to visit you and help out? Oh, that's right...my job.
Good luck with setting things to rights!

    1. Hey Nancy! I know what you mean, it is lovely stepping back and looking at something that is "just right", you feel so satisfied don't you. I am definately a chucker and I do love a good clear out! I have ticked (well, crossed, 'cause I can't work out how to show a tick) a couple of things off the list. It is just getting a new routine really and trying to fit things round other things! Glad to see you out and about "visiting"! xx

    1. There is something about the work expanding to fill the time available, what I wish I could solve is the recycling mystery. I gather it up, take it out to the bins (we have 5!) and then I turn round and there is more waiting to go out! Thanks for the comment re pics! xx
